Allen’s population jumped from 1,940 to 8,314 between 1970 and 1980, mainly due to the economic growth of Dallas and Plano and construction of the Dallas/Ft Worth International Airport.


In 1990 the population had grown to 18, 309, the third largest city in Collin County and has a present population of 66,846 residents and is projected to exceed 89,000 by 2010, making Allen the fastest growing city in north Texas during the next 15 years.
